This website is my attempt at creating my own Digital Garden. It uses the beautiful quartz 4.0 app to publish my dedicated Obsidian Vault into a static github page.
Many people have written about the supposed intrinsic virtues of atomic notes (e.g. here or here). Although I find the idea appealing, the promise of my ‘second-brain’ emerging as a trusted research partner from my set of loosely connected notes never materialized, for my part.
Personally, I have found the rigid note format and organization scheme promoted by proponents of the zettelkästen system to be paralyzing in the past. I find its evangelists annoying and see them as an offshoot of the recent ‘productivity cult.‘
I use the 3 types of notes introduced by Maggie Appleton:
- 🌱 Seedlings for very rough and early ideas
- 🌿 Budding for work I’ve cleaned up and clarified
- 🌳 Evergreen for work that is reasonably complete (though I still tend these over time).
I haven’t got a ton of content yet. Here is a recent one: Making citations.
Currently, external links to text fragments don’t work on Firefox. It’s being worked out by Mozilla and we can expect to see this feature added soon (see here and here).
